Imam Jafar al-Sadiq (a.s.) has said, "The best nature of intellect is worship, the strongest speech for it is knowledge, and its most abundant luck is maxim."

Thaqalayn Muslim Association (TMA) acknowledges the fact that its members are composed of different skin colours and different backgrounds. Furthermore, TMA acknowledges that, along with the rest of those who adhere to the Thaqalayn (Qur'an and Ahlul-Bayt), its members also have different Maraaji' Taqleed. Thus, TMA would like to officially clarify its position with regards to this matter:

TMA is not affiliated to a particular Marja’ Taqleed, rather TMA acknowledges all of them, both the alive (may Allah elevate their stations) and the dead (may Allah bless their souls).

The rationale behind this is that the matter of Taqleed and Ijtihad is preceded by the adherance to the Thaqalayn (Qur’an and Ahlul-Bayt). Meaning that one first adheres to the Thaqalayn, then later comes the matter of Ijtihaad and whom one makes Taqleed of. Therefore, regardless of whom one emulates, he/she are still bound by the Book of Allah and the teachings of the Ahlul-Bayt. This adherence to the Qur’an and Ahlul-Bayt is the sole focus of this association.

It is not in the scope of TMA to elevate the status any Marja’ Taqleed, nor to lower the status of any Marja’ Taqleed. Each member is entitled to having his or her choice of being respected. Hence, any derogatory statements directed towards any individual deemed as Marja’ Taqleed (by even one of TMA’s members) will not be tolerated.

Furthermore, it should be noted that the executives of TMA as well as the committee leaders also individually emulate a Marja’ Taqleed. But, that fact should not, and will not interfere in any decisions made. The philosophy of TMA will be maintained. Anything otherwise will not be tolerated by these individuals, just as any other member.

Note: In the scope that we work in, we doubt that a (fiqh) issue will come up that has different rulings according to different maraaji', but in the event that one does, we will resort to ihtiyat (the more precautionary route).
