October 2003:
Xpression Against Oppression Week and Iftaars On Campus:
Thursday, October 30, 2003:
We encourage everyone to participate in the Xpression
Against Oppression Week at the various UofT Campuses. Look out for the following
posters!

Is it Maghrib and are you still
on campus? May Allah (swt) accept your fast! Juice and dates
are available at the various prayer halls on campus. Also,
iftaars will be served on numerous days throughout the month courtesy of
MSA, TMA, and other
groups. So keep an eye on this website and for posters on
campus for further updates.
Holy Month of Ramadhan Begins:
Monday, October 27, 2003:

TMA has put together a
Ramadhan Guide to help
us all try to make the best out of this blessed month.
Copies will be made available at various locations on
campus.
Fasting in the month of Ramadan, like prayers is a divine
command. Allah says in the Holy Qur'an, "O you who
believe! Fasting is prescribed for you, as it was prescribed
for those before you, so that you may guard (against evil)."
(2:183) The 4th Imam, Zayn al-'Abidin
`Ali ibn al-Husayn (as), wrote a wonderful prayer in Sahifae
Sajjadiya:
"... O God, bless Muhammad
and his Household, inspire us with knowledge of its (the
Holy month) excellence, veneration of its inviolability, and
caution against what You have forbidden within it, and help
us to fast in it by restraining our limbs from acts of
disobedience toward You and our employing them in that which
pleases You, so that we lend not our ears to idle talk and
hurry not our eyes to diversion, we stretch not our hands
toward the forbidden and stride not with our feet toward the
prohibited, our bellies hold only what You have made lawful
and our tongues speak only what You have exemplified, we
undertake nothing but what brings close to Your reward and
pursue nothing but what protects from Your punishment! Then
rid all of that from the false show of the false showers and
the fame seeking of the fame seekers, lest we associate
therein anything with You or seek therein any object of
desire but You!..." (Listen)
Extract from Du'a 44 -
Sahifae Sajjadiya
Words of Wisdom: "Indeed ahead of you is the
blessed month of Allah. A month of blessing, mercy and
forgiveness. A month which with Allah is the best of
months."
"Whosoever recites only one 'Ayat' in Holy Ramadhan, he
will be awarded as if he had recited the full Qur'an, in
other months."
